Government from 8am to 4pm and shops from 8am to 6pm?
It was a bold and meaningful change. Changing the working hours of the civil service is something that was needed. The current working hours of 7.30 to 2.30 is outdated and unproductive and impractical. The new working hours of 8am to 4pm is more in line with the working hours of other countries.
When the change comes into force on 01st February, the salaries and allowances of civil servants would be increased too. The government seems to be streamlining the civil service to make it smaller and more efficient. It is better to have ten efficient staff rather than have one thousand inefficient staff. This sort of streamlining can make our civil service smaller and more efficient and we would be able to pay much better salaries to the staff too.
It was reassuring to hear president Nasheed speak about his government’s economic plans. It was indeed refreshing to have a leader who understands what economics is all about. We have had enough of a half-cooked sheikh who pretended to know economics but was really clueless.
As we implement the new working hours for the civil service (8am to 4pm) it would be nice to change the regulation on service hours for shops as well. How about 8am to 6pm for the shops? Eight to twelve and then 1.00pm to 6pm. That would be nine hours. The current hours of 9am to m11pm also come to a total of about ten hours if we deduct the lunch and prayer breaks. So how about 8 to 6 for the shops?

Bushreeee! govt does not have to tell you what time your shope should be open. Its your private shop, you open whenever you want and close whenever you want.
ReplyDeleteIf we keep the shop open for the same hours while all the ppl are working, how do you expect sales. You do not want any sales from civil servants. because they would only have 2 hours to get ready, make-up and go shoping. by the time they reach your shop, you would have already closed and off to home by 06pm. Make some sense man!
bushry akah the 21st century moron. ahahah .. cmon bush.. don't u want any penny from the civil servants ? hahaha u rite Anonymous 5:09 Pm .. by the time the civil servants goes to ur shop , bush has to say sorry i have to close th shop.. and pls try to come to my shop during ur 1 hr break time . ( Anni said 1hr for breaktime for civil servants ) ;)
ReplyDeletehello dear ...

it is rather more productive to have 1000 efficient staff isnt it bushree? i m very much oppose to the idea of reducing staff from govt at this moment of economic down turn all over the world. if govt remove these staff where wud these people go and how wud they earn to feed their families? do u think how amny of so called Rajjethere poeple are involving in more than one job to feed and meet things in the family to stay expensive living in Male'. so far have govt met those facilities tht are necessary in islands tht people may stay in their own island. changing working hours from 8am to 4pm means there will come to a halt for all our parttime jobs. is this fair bushree?
ReplyDeleteBushree go on a hike and see the life of the average maldivian. you got a lot from maumoon cos you were married his best friend's daughter, so you can live a comfortable life now. there are many who cannot afford it and have to depend on 2 jobs. Now it looks like a married couple with children will have to decide who is going to stay home to look after the kids and attend to their school needs. Looks like Anni has planned this well. Soon he will the number he wants in the civil service as ppl will be forced to leave work in order to look after the school aged children. Well done anni, as usual you are getting what you wanted!
ReplyDeleteBushry, I could not agree with you more. This government is trying its best. Doing all the right things. The problem with Maumoon was that he failed to heed the suggestions of his technocrats. Maumoon was obsessed with credit for himself. His family members in the cabinet were the same. However, President Nasheed is effective in the sense that he is able to make bold decision in a short period of time. Decentralization, change to working hours of civil servants, health insurance, provision of extra 12 months for resort development, and formation of utility corporations are such example. These changes will bring benefits to people in due time. It is too early to stand against Nasheed. Particulary someone like Hassan Saeed who supported him must now accept Nasheed's Presidency and work with him rather than trying to take away his Presidency for himself.
ReplyDeleteBushry, some who comment on this blog fail to see your point. Changing the operation hours of shops is another change that has been discussed in the previous Government several times and one which Maumoon failed to take action. Pushing forward the closing time for shops to 10 or 9 pm would positively affect many social issues, while it would not reduce the business because all shops would close at the same time. I hope President Nasheed decide on this too, soon.
ReplyDeletei think working hours should be 8 to 12 and then 1.30 to 4.30 . luch break is too short. if u r working at customs, and living in henveyru, do u expect staff to be in their office at 1 . especially rainy days. its not easy to get taxi when u want. i would say new working hours are not good. shops are ok 9am to 12 and afternoon 4 to 2 and again 8 to 10.30.
ReplyDeleteI dont like the presidents idea of privatizing state companies. Instead they could be made public companies.
ReplyDeleteIf the president needs urgent investments then he can call up for New Airports projects or new Shipping Ports.
Most of the state companies are making huge profits except for STELCO and MNSL. Then again we must take into account that STELCOs profits were depleted because of Yameen and his Jangiya Nazim. The same thing happened with MNSL Koli sucked up all the money from that company. and BML the money sucked up by DRP crooks with the blessing of Abdulla Hameed.
Why fix something thats not broken. Those companies should stay Maldivian.
Think about it Mr President. You can inject the economy with new investments in Infrastructure like Ports and Airports and other Mega projects. We know Gayoom sole all the money. But Dont sell what we already have for the sake of your presidency.
whether u open at 7:30 or 8,still majority of the time willbe spent at coffee
ReplyDeleteTime for shops?
ReplyDeleteLet's say Dhiraagu as service company can sell it's services and products via electronic medium even during the prayer times while the brick and mortar shops gets a ban in selling services as well as it's products during the said time, is utterly ridiculous.
I do agree that the shops needs to open and close on a given time so that people can relax, but we don't need to be insulted.
Ah, i almost forgot.. Majority Maldivians are stupid. So let's just end here.
Bushree, Thank you for convincing Nasheed to change the working govt working hours to 8 to 4. You are being modest not mentioning that it was all your idea! Great work.
ReplyDeleteThink about the dhekolhu nujehey meehun , the poor who have part time jobs to make ends meet.paying The rent and other expenses...they will suffer the most from the new working times.. I'm not a civil servant..but as a human being I feel sad for these ppl..
ReplyDeletethis presidency is gonna fail badly, just like maumoon and his cronies did, i see the same happening here cause if anybody cirtisizes president these MDP activits roam around like dogs baking at him.. this what we saw in maumoons regime
ReplyDeleteBushy. Please help make sense. Why is Tourism Minister so eager to conclude Herathera issue in support of Jabir. Some say Sawad has taken money from him. What could be real reason.
ReplyDeleteBetter change prayer timings too for the civil servants..now no civil servant will b able to pray mendhuru n asru in a 'jamaa'ath..maumoon zamaanuge namaadhu gadithah ves badhalu kuranfeney
ReplyDeleteI think the move to change the working hours from 8 to 4 is a good decision. I have noticed some comments that 1 hour is not enough for lunch break! I work in a country hundreds of times bigger than Male' and still am able to have lunch and be back in the office within one hour. It mmay not be possible to have lunch at home, but then how many civil servants have lunch at home evn now ?
