Ministers Jameel and Sawad should go next!

Coming Thursday (28th May) will be a hugely significant date on the political calendar of this country. If the two candidates proposed by DRP (Abdullah Shahid and Ahmed Nazim) get elected as the President and the Deputy President of the People’s Majlis, that would show that the opposition party (DRP) has control of the parliament. In principle there’s nothing wrong with an opposition party having control of the parliament. In fact that’s quite common in democratic countries such as the United States too.
The reason why many common people dread a DRP-controlled parliament is that such a situation would virtually prevent the government from prosecuting corrupt criminals from the previous regime which was led by DRP.
I still believe that president Nasheed and his government (along with MDP) would make sure that they muster enough seats in the parliament to allow a smooth progress of events in the prosecution of corrupt and rogue elements from Gayyoom’s regime. Those who illicitly devoured millions of dollars of public money and those who beat us up and killed our brothers and sisters in jails and various other places.
I welcome the establishment of a commission by the president to investigate the corrupt acts of the old regime. I have been saying all along that this nation cannot heal itself unless and until these rogue elements are prosecuted and brought to justice.
As for the sacking of the Attorney General (Dhiyana), I have to say that it was suggested in this blog even before the parliamentary election. I believe that the Communications Minister Jameel and the Tourism Minister Ali Sawad should go next. We need a more dynamic Tourism Minister and Jameel seems to hate the government too much to allow him to do his job properly.

  1. What about Shaheedh, Bush?

  2. I'm sure Shaheed has done enough to give him a chance, at least for another year or so.

  4. since no party has achieved a majority in the recent election its on the coming thursday that we will have a clear picture which party is really holding most seats. DRP has already proposed a president and a deputy while they say that they hold a parliament majority. lets see it on 28th.

  5. Why do you want to kick the asses of those cabinet members who are not the members of the ruling MDP? This government is a governemnt of both those people who voted for and against it. We elected this government to build this nation, not to play "baiykakkaa". It's time this government did something responsible, something productive, something benefitial to the rightful onwers of this government. We dont want to see so many useless commissions with illegitimate powers coming to life every passing day. It's just six months into the new government and we have seen 4 such commissions created by the commission. None of those commissions which are in business has so far brought anything new to the people. We are not sure if these commissions are in business. I doubt as we have not heard from them since their existence.

  8. Lets say all cabinet posts are allocated as Bush has recommended. And all the rogue elements of previous regime are put behind the bars, and MDP has vented all frustrations and are perfectly happy.

But what happens the next day? Would there be a plan to develop the country.

  9. There is a plan, but the plan would work only after those who almost destroyed this country are behind bars.

  10. Yes, in this case I do agree with you. But, my point is not thier party, but their parformence. In this case thier is one more person who I belive is not doing as par the potential. That is our education minister Dr. Musthofa Luthfee.

  11. I agree wholeheartedly. Dr. Musthafa is a relative of mine, and a senior colleague at the Education Ministry while I was a staff there - a nice person personally, but Im predicted that he would be a bad Minister even at the onset, and I would agree that he has been a disappointment. I was going to say that he needs to go out too. But Aliglaamgaaf has stolen the torch from me.

  14. Fully agree. And I propose:-

    1. Feyrey as Communications Minister
    2. Ziyarttey as Tourism Minister
    3. Maakun Falah as Home Minister
    4. Billoori Moosa as Attorney General.
    5. Sheikh Hussein Rasheed as Foreign Minister.

Ziyarttey has a nice hair style too. Plus he deserves a promotion now for his contributions so far.

Jesus Afeef should be the new Chief Justice of the Supreme Court.

  15. Jameel, Sawad and Shaheed do not belong with this crowd. While they helped to improve the public image of the MDP led government, they have no real say. By remaining in the government, they only destroy their public reputation as honest & decent leaders.

The sooner they quit and leave the hyenas to themselves the better. I wonder why Ali Hashim has not made any move yet. After all, he is totally frustrated with the way Anni is running the show.

Let us leave MDP and their illiterate hooligans to run the government as a circus. Only then, will the people of Maldives really see the true situation we are in.

And by the way, I voted for Anni and still do not regret the change of government.
