We should perhaps buckle out seatbelts for a turbulent ride towards an uncertain future

The way that the current political map of Maldives is being shaped, I believe that very soon this could spill into something ugly. The Majlis is so polarized between the two leading parties (MDP and DRP), it is virtually impossible to achieve any meaningful legislation to get us out of the current economic woes.
1. DRP and PA seem to be hell bent on weakening and discrediting the government. They seem to have the aim of changing our form of government into a parliamentary democracy so that (Gayyoom’s younger brother and head of PA) Yamin could one day become Prime Minister.
2. DRP and PA also seem to share Gayyoom’s ambition of promoting his younger son (Gassaan) as a future President or Prime Minister.
3. Any attempt to summon ex-president Gayyoom to the Presidential Commission investigating past frauds could lead to violent confrontations. If the government persists in bringing Gayyoom to justice the situation could lead to the President using his power to enforce 144 and impose temporary martial law.
4. DRP is also getting help from some “independent” MPs such as (Kutti) Nasheed in undermining the relationship between the military (MNDF) and the government. These attempts could eventually lead to a reversing of the democratization process of the country.
I do not believe that this country could achieve anything good as long as Gayyoom and Yamin and their cronies have a say about our future. The best service that Gayyoom could do his country at present would be to retire from politics and let us fend for ourselves. If that doesn’t happen then we should buckle out seatbelts for a turbulent ride towards an uncertain future.

  2. I also think that violence and bloodshed could become "common place" in future. Especially if some criminal elements feel they are cornered in which case the "dying animal fight back more viciously."

  3. our life is getting from bad to worse. we got rid of Gayyoom because we ddin't like what he was doing. and now what? Anni is worse than Gayyom. c the case of the drug dealer who was brought back to the country from Sri Lanka. Bushry, u r so biased. u'll never criticize Anni unless he does something to your beloved Addu. that shows how selfish u r n how unconcerned u r abt what's happening in the country. u r so obsessed with Gayyoom that u can't think straight like a sane person. sometimes i sit and wonder where the great journalist whom we admired so much has gone! is there any chance of getting our beloved journalist back? or do we have to keep on reading your biased articles? won't u do anything to get the 'best deal' for your beloved country as u promised sometime back? i've admired ur articles since u started writing - i wish u all the best and hopw u'd really strive to get the best deal for our beloved nation.

  5. How long are we going to be pulling Maumoon? All these days we have been blaming Maumoon for doing wrong, corruption and so on. Now its like this. If anything good happens, it's because Maumoon is no more in power and if something wrong happens, its because Maumoon is still in politics. Doesn't that sound a bit insane? For me it does. Of cause I am not a supporter of DRP or Maumoon. Yet, I can never believe that this is time for us to shift the attention of people from the existing problems to "the same old song" again. This is high time we start issues based politics rather than playing dirty games of politics.

  6. Gayoom is a non entity. Why cant we accept that instead of promoting gayoom by mentioning his name everytime. Bit like promoting the devil and live with fear.

The only thing to fear is fear itself. So why not get another punching bag..

  7. This idiotic provincial minister said in the Raajje Miadhu program last night that Link Road' was only meant for trasnsporting goods. He meant that people are not supposed to drive on the rink road and they should walk from 'valuthereyn' for their local transport. What an a** HOLE!

How can we keep these 'akal se chotee' people as provincial minister in big places like Addu?

Fire him immediately. He has always to blame the locals!

  11. No matter whoever and whatever says. Former presinent Gayyoom should be brought to justice.
His main problem is robing government money and allowing his family people do it.for example his bil Ilyaas Ibrahim was never engaged in any type of work or business in his whole life to earn money and howcome to be a big MAHUJANU today from where he got all the money to buy flats in Singapore and other countries. Gayyoom knows all this that he was robing from MIFCO & STO & whereever he can. Gayyoom allowed for some (like Dimms Solih, Jangiya Nazim & loly Jaabirand many more)) to import forged currency and later on he legalised all of it. Besides many prisoners were brutally beaton to death in prison under his order. Are all these not crimes.? If not then what else will be crimes.
